I love to teach! I currently maintain 40+ piano students from ages 7-97. In short, my method establishes a classical understanding of reading and interpreting music. Once it’s clear we’ve accomplished this, students are free to venture into their own interests. We can explore classical repertoire, pop and show tunes, jazz, funk, R&B, whatever you find fun and inspiring. At our most recent recital, students featured works by JS Bach (prelude in G minor from A Book for Anna Magdelena), Mozart (Piano Sonata in C K. 545), Chopin (Waltz in A minor B 150), The Mandalorian Theme, broadway tunes, ragtime, and beginner “big note” charts.
One important note is that reading music is not required to study with me. It is very beneficial to read music, but students are free to learn by ear. In this case, we would study chords and harmony, ear training, and reading by chord charts instead of notes on a staff.
Along with private lessons, I also create youtube tutorials that walk through how to learn tunes by ear, how to improvise, or if a student needs extra help on their piece.
My studio is located in Ravenswood, Chicago. Currently accepting students in person or virtual. Inquire here.
